Every now and then I read a post on how to get the
stock textures for further editing. I have given this tip
privately to some but I think a larger audience can be met with
this tutorial.
Requirements for this tutorial:
-
APCD Texture functions (add, properties, near,
med, far)
-
Graphic software knowledge (Photoshop,
Paintshop, Corel, Photoimpact etc.) I use Photoimpact so
that will be the platform here but most functions are similar
to the other graphic software.
Getting stock textures from APCD for further
editing is not as hard you might think it is.
Select the texture you want to get. For this
demo, we will use the default fairway texture as this has near ,
med, and far properties.
After selecting the texture, click on the texture
properties button.
Now,
using your select tool, select the texture including some gray
around it. Do not grab beyond the borders of the window
(red) as this may cause some problem later when we invert
selection. Cut or copy the selection.
Paste it as a new image.
Using the magic wand select tool, select the gray
area.
Now, invert the selection. This will have
the texture selected by itself. Cut or copy the selection
again.
Paste it as a new image again. Now, you have
a 128x128 texture
You can resize it to 256x256 texture as well.
Now, you can do whatever you want with it.
Below is a sample of what I did to the stock
fairway texture for Firehead Course at KISS tours. I applied
an autumn style filter to brown it a bit.
