My Current Project: Old Head Golf Links

The Old Head of Kinsale, a 220-acre promontory jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean, is now home of one of the most challenging and spectacular golf courses ever created by man. Its history is traceable back to the times before Christ.

This course could yet be the most ambitious course ever in APCD.  The cliffs and waves will be something to really work on.  I can imagine the countless textures needed as well as the knowledge to execute the crashing waves.  This will take time to make for sure.  And I will take every effort to make it as accurate and as spectacular as the real thing is.

APCD 1.5 is released by Microsoft.  Major features include 512x512 textures as well as texture blending. This has made an impact on my thoughts of Old Head.  Old Head is a course which will benefit a lot from these.  The cliffs will turn out (hopefully) better with the bigger textures and texture blending.  For the reasons that it will be executed a lot better with APCD 1.5,  I have decided to stop all work on APCD 1.1 and use APCD 1.5 on it.  This will mean though that the course will only be available for Links 2003 only.  Hopefully I get my copy soon so I can see how the course goes in the game as well.

Elevation tweaked more, and major 3d structures added.  Simply SPECTACULAR!!!

First pass at elevation has been done.  Need to tweak a lot more on it especially on hole 2-3 and 17-18.  Textures not done yet, all edges still set to "0" so you will find some rough shapes as well.  3d structures not included yet as well.  I have added pins and tees just to test it and grab some shots.

The mesh is basically done except for those needed for elevations which I will add as they are needed.  I have re-flattened the course to fix some mesh.  Today, I elevated the course and did hole 16 elevations, a par 3 hole.  So far I am happy with the result at 16. It is starting to look SPECTACULAR!

This might even be my first Links 2003 release at the slow rate this is going.

I have created the basic hole mesh but still have to ring them and then mesh the other stuff like cart paths, etc.  I have a few pics below of holes 1, 2, and 3 that I have meshed.

At this point, I have meshed the course at about 40%.

The course is painfully taking up shape.  I said painfully because my wrist hurts from those verts.  Except for the default mesh, I have added about 90% of the verts manually.  This is definitely going to take some time to finish.

I redid all the verts from scratch recently but I think the effort paid off.  Below are the pics of the elevated verts.  I am looking at elevating the cliff, then do the holes then elevate the holes.  The mesh work is really frustrating but I'm not leaving any vert to chance :)
